Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana miss the boat

Cameroon, Senegal and Algeria remain the only nations already qualified for the next African Cup of Nations.

Winner of Madagascar (2-1) last Thursday, thanks to goals from Gervinho and Sebastien haller (for its big first with the Elephants), Côte d’Ivoire this time contented itself with a draw against the Barea (1-1), Tuesday in Toamasina.

After a hand of Jeremy Morel in his area, Franck Kessié opened the scoring from the penalty spot for the Ivorians (15th), but the Malagasy equalized with an exceptional strike signed by Ibrahim Amada (51st). Nicolas Pepe or Max-Alain Gradel could not win their team thereafter.

Ivory Coast misses the opportunity to take shelter during this 4th day: the selection led by Patrice Beaumelle remains first in the group tied with “Mada”, but Ethiopia has returned to a length of two teams after their success against Niger (3-0). Everything will be decided during the last 2 days, next March.

Ghana could also have qualified before their last 2 matches but lost in added time to Sudan (1-0). The Black Stars, who played with Alexander Djiku, John Boye and Jordan Ayew, are at the top of their pool but tied on points with South Africa. Hubert Velud’s Sudanese have 3 points less.
