‘Cortocircuito’ (‘Short Circuit’) will have a remake with Latin flavor

Short circuit (Short Circuit), the mythical eighties comedy and science fiction film, will have a remake. According to the report published by Deadline, the study Spyglass Those who have control of the franchise have brought together screenwriters Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman to give the story a Latin twist.

The original version focused on a military experimental robot, Number 5, which after being struck by lightning, gains human intelligence, including apparent emotions. Directed by John Badham (WarGames, Blue Thunder), and starring some hot actors of the time, including Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttemberg, Fisher Stevens, Austin Pendleton, and GW Bailey.

Although the film was a box office success, grossing more than $ 40 million at the time, in the United States and Canada alone – with a budget of just $ 15 million – it was not entirely acclaimed by critics.

In 1988 the sequel, Short Circuit 2, was released, this time directed by Kenneth Johnson, with Fisher Stevens repeating character. But it was a critical and box office flop. A third part was discarded.

The remake, as you conceive it Spyglass, seeks representation of Latino minorities within the United States. Eduardo Cisneros has been associated with the productions of Eugenio Derbez for years. He has written nine episodes of La familia P. Luche and is a non-credit writer on Instructions Not Included.

The film is in pre-production, with no actors announced and no filming or release date. It is not the only franchise in the reboot phase of Spyglass. They are also doing it with Scream, with a release date of January 14, 2022.
