Coronavirus | China says it has vaccinated a million people

While vaccines Pfizer and Moderna in the United States continue to take giant steps for approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in China, the place of origin of the coronavirus, the pharmaceutical Sinopharm claims to have already administered the vaccine a million people in the country.

The confirmation of this fact comes from the own company president Liu Jingzhen, who assures that only a few few vaccinated people showed “mild symptoms”. These first vaccinations are part of a special emergency use program authorized by Beijing in July.

Within the framework of this program construction workers, diplomats and students who traveled have been vaccinated, in the words of the president in the statement published on WeChat, more than 150 countries during the pandemic. Of them, none would have reported being infected. “Under emergency use, we have now applied it to almost a million people. We have not received reports of serious adverse reactions and only a few had some mild symptoms. Diplomats and students who traveled to more than 150 countries did not test positive for coronavirus after being vaccinated“says Liu.

The efficacy of the vaccine

This vaccine developed by Sinopharm has already completed the phase three of trials after completion of work carried out in ten countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Peru and Argentina. They have participated in about 60,000 people.

To give an example of the effectiveness of the vaccine, the president presented the case of an outbreak detected in an office. “A transnational company has 99 employees in one of its offices abroad, of which 81 were vaccinated. And then an outbreak broke out in the office. 10 of the 18 people who were not vaccinated were infected and none of those vaccinated were infected“.

What Liu did not indicate was the vaccine he was referring to, since the Asian pharmaceutical company is developing two projects in parallel. In recent months, China granted companies authorization for the urgent use of vaccines. “We have finished collecting blood samples from 40,000 people 14 days after receiving the two injections needed to get vaccinated. The result is very good, “Liu said.
