Coronavirus.- Chile detects 2,356 coronavirus infections and 25 deaths in the last day


The Ministry of Health of Chile has reported this Tuesday that in the last day there have been 2,356 infections and 25 deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic, although the number of active cases has decreased to 20,848 throughout the country.

This is, according to the latest balance, the lowest number of active cases since February 10, while the positivity rate is around 7.48 percent.

Of the new cases registered, 1,563 present symptoms, 648 are asymptomatic and another 145 have not yet been notified. This represents a slight increase compared to the previous day, although the authorities consider that the figure has been maintained during the last week.

The total number of infected since the health emergency broke out is 805,317, while the deceased amount to 20,151. The Los Ríos region continues to have the highest incidence rate at the national level. While the regions with the highest increase in new confirmed cases in the last seven days are Valparaíso, Arica and Parinacota, Coquimbo and Metropolitana.

There are currently 1,640 people admitted to intensive care units, of which 1,408 require mechanical ventilation.

On the other hand, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, has highlighted in a statement the progress of the vaccination campaign, from which 2.9 million people have already benefited. “During the next few days, we will receive three shipments with new vaccines, adding more than four million new doses,” he said.
