Coronavirus.- Brazil adds about 35,300 new infections and another 685 deaths from COVID-19


The Brazilian Ministry of Health has reported this Tuesday in its latest bulletin of the death of 685 people due to COVID-19, as well as 35,294 new infections.

In total, the authorities detail, there are 5,911,798 accumulated cases and 166,699 deaths, with a mortality rate of 2.6 percent. The number of recovered patients amounts to 5,361,592.

The southeast of Brazil continues to be the region of the country most affected, both in relation to the number of deaths, 75,791, and in accumulated cases, more than 2.06 million. The pandemic has hit the states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro with special virulence, where there is a 70 percent occupation in intensive care units.

On the other hand, the governor of Sao Paulo, Joao Doria, announced this Tuesday that the first 120,000 doses of the vaccine that the Chinese pharmaceutical Sinovac is developing in collaboration with the São Paulo institute Butantan, will arrive this Thursday, to be part of the last phase of trials.

This vaccine, which is in the final phase of testing, has managed to generate antibodies in 97 percent of the volunteers who have volunteered for its trials, according to the scientific journal ‘Lancet’ recently.

In this third and final phase, some 13,000 doctors and health professionals from a dozen centers throughout the country have participated, including some from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, or Brasilia.
