Doha. The 2020 Soccer Club World Cup, which was to be held in December, was moved to February 2021 and the headquarters in Qatar is maintained, FIFA reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced to modify the calendars, including the continental champions of clubs, which determine the representatives of each confederation.

The 2020 FIFA Club World Cup will be held from February 1 to 11 (2021), in Qatar, the organization that runs world football said in a statement.

However, this date will overlap with the calendars of various international leagues and could harm many of the participating teams, including the Mexican clubs América, Cruz Azul or Tigres, which are in the fight to obtain their ticket to said fair. .

So far, only two of the seven places have been defined: European champion Bayern Munich and Qatari monarch Al-Duhail.

Conmebol will choose its representative with the final of the Copa Libertadores, which would be at the end of next January in Rio de Janeiro, while Africa will meet its continental champion on November 27 and it will be Egyptian, Zamalek or Al Ahly.

The Asian Champions League and the Concacaf League will end in December after finishing their tournaments through several matches in sanitary bubbles in Qatar and Orlando, respectively.

The 2020 Champions of Oceania was canceled after the group stage due to travel restrictions against Covid-19, and its representative in Qatar is yet to be decided.

The 2020 edition of the Club World Cup will be the last with seven participants, subsequently, the tournament will have an expanded format to 24 teams.

On the other hand, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, questioned that some leagues compete during the FIFA dates, established for the teams to play international or friendly competitions.
