Champions League: Dijon wins in Turkey

Dijon won its third match in three Champions League days, on the floor of Bursa, Turkey. The JDA won 87-81 after extra time.

Dijon has taken a big step towards the knockout stages of the Champions League! The JDA went on to win 87-81 after extra time in Bursa, Turkey, signing their third victory (the second after extra time) in three Champions League matches. This meeting could not have been closer. Bursa started the match with a 6-2, then Dijon returned to 6-6 before taking a four-point lead (19-23) at the start of the second quarter, and four more after a quarter of an hour (22 -26). The Turks tied the score at halftime at 28-28. The third quarter was well managed by Bursa, who had his biggest lead of the match in the 29th minute (48-42). But Dijon again equalized (52-52, 33rd). Bursa took a four-point lead several times in the last quarter (58-54, 60-56), then Dijon returned to 60-60.

Holston and Julien decisive

With 36 seconds remaining, the score was 65-62 in favor of the locals, but David Holston equalized at 65-65 on a 3-point shot 27 seconds from the buzzer. Berkan Durmaz returned the favor eight seconds from the end (68-65) and Holston, again, equalized for Dijon three seconds from the buzzer (68-68). Christon Semaj missed the layup for the victory in stride and it was therefore necessary to play overtime. An extension where the Dijonnais were led for one minute (71-70), before inflicting a 7-0 to their opponents (including five points from Holston).

The Turks came back to -3 at 1’11 from the end (78-81) then 41 seconds from the end (81-84), but Axel Julien knocked them out twice on a long distance shot. What a game ! This victory is that of the collective for the JDA, which was able to count on five players with more than 10 points, the palm going to David Holston and his 17 points and 10 assists. With this third victory, Dijon is of course at the head of group B, before receiving Bursa in a month.
