CES is the most recent victim of COVID-19. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced that CES 2021 will be completely online. As with almost all events this year, the next edition of the Consumer Electronic Show will be online to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
In an entry published on its website, the CTA mentions the concern about COVID-19 in an event that brings together thousands of people.
“With growing global health concerns over the spread of COVID-19, it is not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person.”
The organizers mention that are designing “a unique experience for the technology industry”. A fully digital CES 2021 “will allow the entire technology community to safely share ideas and introduce the products that will shape our future,” says CTA.
An online CES 2001 completely changes the concept of the fair
Unlike other fairs where announcements can be made by streaming, the grace of CES is that attendees can experience the products on the showroom floor. With the COVID-19 pandemic on the rise in the United States, an event that condenses tens of thousands in an enclosed space is a recipe for the apocalypse.
To compensate, the CTA will offer dynamic product displays or live demos that can be scheduled according to interests. Added to that there will be keynotes and conferences, as well as meetings, round tables and other types of interactions to do business.
“Technology has helped us all work, learn, and connect during the coronavirus pandemic, and has presented real solutions to help solve complex global challenges,” organizers say.
Although CES has declined in recent years, the Las Vegas fair remains the showcase for many tech companies of consumption. Companies like NVIDIA take advantage of the occasion to announce their advances in GPUs, while Samsung, LG and Sony deploy products such as 4K and 8K screens, cameras and all kinds of gadgets.
He CES 2021 will take place the first week of January completely online, while CES 2022 will return to face-to-face format at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
