CBS continues to bet on expanding its most successful franchises. And if a few days ago we learned that the chain was preparing a spin-off of ‘Navy. Criminal investigation ‘located in Hawaii, now Variaty has revealed that it also is working on a spin-off of the police drama ‘FBI’ that would go beyond the borders of the United States.
Jeremy Sisto, Zeeko Zaki and Missy Peregrym in ‘FBI’
The new fiction, titled ‘FBI: International’, will focus on agents who are part of the international branch of the FBI. According to the FBI’s own website, the criminal investigation agency of the United States Department of Justice has 63 legal attaché offices and more than two dozen smaller sub-offices in various countries around the world who maintain relations with local law enforcement agencies, so those responsible for the series would have more than enough material.
Derek Haas, co-creator of ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Med’ and executive producer of the first season of ‘FBI’, will write and produce the series with Dick Wolf and Peter Jankowski. As with the rest of the franchise, CBS Studios and Universal Television will also produce this new spinoff series in association with Wolf Entertainment.
Beyond American borders
The central idea of ’FBI: International’, which will be the second spin-off of the franchise after ‘FBI: Most Wanted’, quite reminiscent of ‘Criminal minds: Without borders’, the spin-off of the hit CBS series ‘Criminal minds’. The fiction, which was canceled in 2017 after two seasons, focused on a fictitious FBI group known as the International Intervention Team that solved crimes involving Americans on foreign soil.
