CaixaBank, recognized by the Dow Jones European Sustainability Index

CaixaBank was recognized this week by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as one of the best listed banks in the world in terms of sustainability.

The main global index that analyzes the behavior of companies under ESG criteria (environmental, social and corporate governance) has considered CaixaBank as one of the 25 most outstanding banks in sustainability, out of 254 candidates, and has placed it among the 10 best world entities.

This year, the DJSI has included 307 companies from all sectors, out of a total of more than 7,300 companies analyzed from countries around the world.

CaixaBank obtained 84 points, the highest score (100 points) in the areas of financial inclusion and social and environmental information.

The experts have also assessed other aspects such as the bank’s commitment to respect human rights, the development of human capital, risk management, tax strategy and the identification of relevant issues for its stakeholders.

The Chairman of CaixaBank, Jordi Gual, explained that it is important that, in the current context marked by the coronavirus pandemic, the bank remains among the most prominent international examples of the financial sector in sustainable management.

In this sense, the executive commented that “at CaixaBank, we have a commitment approach to all stakeholders from our origins, which not only seeks to add value to our shareholders but also cares for a broader set of stakeholders, such as employees, suppliers, clients and society as a whole ”.

Gual has indicated that “we need, now more than ever, responsible companies that develop a social function that goes beyond pure business business; companies committed to the environment and to the society they serve ”.

On the other hand, Gonzalo Gortázar, the bank’s CEO, said that “the inclusion of CaixaBank, year after year, in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index shows that the entity remains committed to people’s financial well-being, financial inclusion , sustainable development and social progress to be a benchmark in socially responsible banking ”.

Gortázar highlighted the “effort that the entire organization makes, day by day, to maintain and reinforce the vocation of service that has always characterized us. We act differently precisely because we are aware of this responsibility in the construction of a socially inclusive world for current and future generations ”.
