BARCELONA, Nov 18 (.) – Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has been ruled out of Saturday’s La Liga game against Atlético de Madrid due to a knee injury suffered during the Spanish team’s game against the Swiss.
Barca confirmed on Wednesday that Busquets suffered a sprained external lateral ligament in his left knee in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland, but did not say how long he would be out of the game.
Several Spanish media reported that Busquets will be out for about two weeks, as well as that he will also miss the Champions League match against Dinamo Kiev and the league match at home against Osasuna.
The Barça team also has the withdrawal of the young forward Ansu Fati for the match against Atlético, third in the league standings, six points behind Barça, which occupies eighth place.
But Barcelona’s list of absences pales in comparison to that of the team led by Diego Simeone.
Luis Suárez, Atlético’s top scorer with five goals in the league, will miss the reunion with his old team after testing positive for COVID-19 during his trip with the Uruguay team.
Midfielder Héctor Herrera has also been ruled out until December after a left thigh injury, while defenders Stefan Savić and Mario Hermoso are also doubtful.
Forwards Yannick Carrasco, Diego Costa and Vitolo, meanwhile, are trying to recover in time for the match, which will be Atlético’s first real test of their title bid after a brilliant start to the campaign.
