This morning the Mugello Circuit had its first official free practice session in the Formula 1 World Championship and there the Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes has set the best time, being only 0.048s faster than the Dutch Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
This track, which becomes the 72nd in F1 history to host a Grand Prix, is quite interesting due to its low downforce configuration and fast cornering sequence with constant 4G lateral forces. All the drivers used the soft compound, which has the C3 assignment for this weekend.
With a time of 1: 17.879, Valtteri Bottas confirms that the Mercedes W11 is perfectly suited to any layout and configuration, although the Red Bull RB16 also shows a recovery compared to the previous weekend at Monza.
the SF1000 of the Maranello team for its 1000 F1 races. This result could be a ray of hope after the dire results of 2020. Sebastian Vettel, who was confirmed yesterday as Aston Martin driver for 2021, was thirteenth.
Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, current championship leader, set the fourth time half a second behind his teammate, Valtteri Bottas. Frenchman Pierre Gasly, winner of the last Italian GP, he was fifth and his Russian teammate Daniil Kvyat seventh. Good start for AlphaTauri.
Frenchman Esteban Ocon and Australian Daniel Ricciardo, both Renault drivers, were sixth and tenth respectively. McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz finished in eighth and fifteenth places. The Spaniard was testing a new front wing.
Red Bull’s Alexander Albon recorded the ninth time, while Alfa Romeo drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi were eleventh and fourteenth respectively.
Haas drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen occupied 12th and 17th positions. In the case of the Danish driver, he has a new engine, after last week’s problems at Monza and that generated the Safety Car that ultimately changed the course of the race.
Williams’ George Russell and Nicholas Latifi recorded 16th and 20th positions, while Racing Point drivers Lance Stroll and
Sergio Pérez, who will end his relationship with the team at the end of the present
season, spent the session doing long runs on the hard compound. They occupied the eighteenth and nineteenth time respectively.
At 3:00 p.m. in Scarperia, the second free practice session of the Tuscan Grand Prix will begin with LIVE broadcast from F1Latam.com.
