Bill Gates predicts the end of the pandemic 0:47
. – Americans should do more than ever to stop the spread of the coronavirus by wearing masks, staying away from crowds and at a distance from others, but they are unlikely to do enough, Microsoft founder Bill Gates said Thursday.
Gates said he expects several vaccines to hit the US market next year, as well as new treatments. Until then, people should do everything possible to stop the spread of the virus.
“Ideally, people would say, hey, I have to do my best,” Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“During the 16 months until coverage is high, we are likely to have 2,000 deaths per day in January, in February,” he predicted.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine apparently agreed. It issued a revised forecast Thursday, predicting 471,000 deaths by March 1, nearly 40,000 more than it forecast the week before, due to further spread.
“There are going to be several hundred thousand lives lost in the United States alone. We will look back and say: why couldn’t we convince people to stay on track until we hit that very high vaccination level, which will probably be late spring, “Gates said.
Bill Gates, concerned about transition
Bill Gates also expressed some concern about the Trump Administration’s refusal to cooperate with the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden on matters related to the coronavirus.
“I think it might slow things down a bit. I am still hopeful that there will be cooperation soon, ”he said.
The Trump administration does not have a coherent message on how people can stop the spread of the virus, Bill Gates said. Biden’s team is better, he said. “Every day that is wasted in terms of not getting that distribution and that clear message about behavior could result in loss of life,” he said.
