Bastianini is proclaimed Moto2 world champion

Remy Gardner took the victory in Portimao and Enea Bastianini is the new Moto2 world champion. The Italian rider arrived at the Portuguese GP, the last of the season, with an advantage of 14 points over Sam Lowes, 18 over Luca Marini and 23 over Marco Bezzecchi. He had everything to face to win, but his rivals were not going to make it easy for him. Marini was placed first and began to shoot, while the World Cup leader was losing positions.

The brother, on the mother’s side, of Valentino Rossi came to be three points behind Bastianini, who if he lost a couple more positions would lose the leadership of the Moto2 World Championship. On the other hand, Sam Lowes was third and was eight behind the Italian, if he reached the first position he snatched the lead from the Italtrans Racing Team rider. Fortunately, Bastianini found in Remy Gardner an unexpected ally.

The australian, which came from pole, passed Luca Marini with two laps to go and began to shoot until leaving the Italian with no chance of victory. The Onexox TKKR SAG Team rider served Bastianini the title on a tray with that overtaking, as he took five points away from Marini. From behind, Lowes did not arrive and Bezzecchi stayed fourth. Bastianini breathed, he was going to be Moto2 world champion.

Finally, Marini he couldn’t catch up with Gardner and had to settle for second place. Although it was not worth to him to conquer the Moto2 championship, yes served to snatch the runner-up from Sam Lowes with whom he has tied at 196 points, nine less than Bastianini. Bezzecchi was fourth and has been left out of the World Championship podium. The latter was the one who had the hardest of the four, and although he tried, he could not snatch the title from his compatriot.
