Barcelona lived a season of oblivion, Real Madrid snatched away La Liga and Quique Setien’s style does not completely convince. The only salvation, which is no small thing, seems to be the Champions League.
Just to avoid repeating mistakes in 2020-21, the club has begun to value certain players to reinforce the squad. Miralem Pjanic is a great arrival, but it cost Arthur’s departure.
Now, among the possible signings, one caught quite the attention and it was not because it was a brilliant name, rather it seemed another mistake of the directive.
The Spanish press talked a lot about the possibility that Mattia De Sciglio reached the right-back of the Blaugrana team. First there was talk that he would be included in the Pjanic-Arthur barter and after a possibility of signing him for 10 million euros.
The curious thing is that Barcelona already has this position covered with Semedo and Sergi Roberto himself, which is why buying from the Italian would not make any sense.
Even if Semedo leaves, thinking that De Sciglio is the right one to replace him is not entirely consistent. First, the Juventus player is 27 years old; second, its characteristics are more defensive than offensive, something that does not agree in the culé system; third, its continuity has been null and Sarri himself declared that he does not have it.
For now, the Mundo Deportivo newspaper assured that from Barcelona they assure that interest in De Sciglio has faded, but that everything will depend on the continuity of Nelson Semedo.
Faced with the above, the question to ask Barcelona is whether that player is the ideal replacement to cover the right side.
