Bankia has been recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as one of the most sustainable companies in Europe.
DJSI Europe is one of the world’s most prestigious indices for sustainability.
The experts have valued aspects of Bankia such as the relationship with the client, transparency, tax strategy, communication on environmental protection, climate and social change, and financial inclusion.
José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, the Chairman of Bankia, explained that “for Bankia, the inclusion of environmental, social and good governance (ESG) criteria, in addition to corporate integrity, are fundamental requirements to preserve the trust of our customers, shareholders and of the society. Belonging to this index is a great recognition of the work and commitment that we carry out from all the bank’s directions to promote sustainable banking and make responsible management a fundamental pillar of our business model ”.
The bank received a total score of 80 points out of 100, improving by two points from last year’s score. Among the ratings obtained, the analysts have taken into account the relationship with the client that this year has obtained the maximum rating. While the fiscal strategy, transparency and financial inclusion have maintained the highest score recorded already last year.
From Bankia they have detailed that two have been the areas that have significantly increased their score. The environmental dimension has improved compared to 2019 a total of five points, highlighting the improvements implemented in operational efficiency. In addition, the social dimension has registered a positive assessment by analysts who have rated aspects such as the report on social policies with 100 points.
On the other hand, Bankia has detailed that since 2016 it has been part of the FTSE4Good Index, an index internationally designed to facilitate investment in companies that manage their businesses with environmental, social and good corporate governance (ESG) criteria and are recognized for their practices in sustainability. In 2019, Bankia contributed to mobilizing sustainable financial resources amounting to 9,000 million euros.
