Autumn Nations Cup: Scotland-Fiji match canceled

The Autumn Nations Cup match between Scotland and Fiji, scheduled for November 28 in Murrayfield, has already been canceled due to the many cases of coronavirus detected among the Fijian workforce.

The presence of Fiji in this Autumn Nations Cup is turning into a fiasco. After the cancellation of their match against France and against Italy, the players of the Pacific saw their meeting against Scotland, scheduled for November 28 at Murrayfield, already canceled. The reason ? Fiji is unable to extricate itself from the coronavirus pandemic, which has hit them hard since the beginning of the month. According to RMC, there would indeed have been 32 positive cases this week in the Fijian ranks, players and staff alike! It is therefore impossible to play these group matches, even if the hope remains for the classification match against the fourth of the other group on December 5. The Autum Nations Cup organizers did not say whether they would give Scotland and Italy a 28-0 win and therefore five points, as they did for France, but one can assume that this will be the case.

An inevitable decision

“The extent of the infection in the Fiji camp, combined with a minimum isolation period of 10 days, as well as the obvious need for proper preparation for any international test match means that although it is difficult, this decision was inevitable. The tournament organizers remain in constant contact with the Fijian team regarding their well-being and recovery, which remains the number one priority. The Fijian team and the organizers hope that the fourth game on December 5 against the team that will finish in 4th place in Pool A can take place, subject to physical condition checks once the players have left the tournament. ‘isolation and after all appropriate protocols,’ the organizers write in a statement.
