Audi Q5 S Line test drive

Bravo. Audi managed to splash in the new Q5 a bit of the personality of two successful concepts: something of the Q8, a truck that just looking at it intimidates you, because everything in it is a clear message of superiority, and a touch of the evil of the RS division, which, with more expressive lines, intensifies the sportier nuance of the house.

On board the S Line version, we were able to enjoy part of the heritage that this SUV, proudly made in Puebla, Mexico, has earned from these premises.

The great popularity of the Q5, which today is one of the best-selling trucks of the German brand in our country and in the world, forced the firm’s engineers to be very careful with its changes. Unavoidable modifications, as this SUV was already in need of an update to implement the latest Audi technological innovations, necessary to defend itself from the onslaught of its rivals.

In front of us was the S-line version, which, without having the largest engine in the house, does integrate a sportier design and a more youthful attitude. The first thing that will catch your eye is its huge black grille with a honeycomb design, which stars in the front of the vehicle after having grown in proportions, which contrasts with the optical games that frame it and matches the aluminum wheels of 20 inches that were also blacked out.

Obviously we did not expect less than LEDs and it was exactly what Audi gave us, by incorporating Matrix LED headlights from the Elite version, technology that allows you to forget about changing the high beams to low beams when encountering other vehicles, because even with the high beams, the car turns off part of the headlight progressively, as if it were magic, avoiding dazzling other drivers that you might find in front of you.

Giddy Up!

His figure caused us to eat the urge to get behind the wheel, and in doing so we realized that once again Audi had managed to honor its design with a privileged driving dynamics.

Under its hood works a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is now accompanied by Mild Hybrid technology. Thanks to this equation, take-off is directly proportional to the rush you are in to violate the laws of physics.

Beyond all the premium proposal that we find on board, present in the materials, assemblies, and equipment, all covered by that premium vehicle smell that you breathe when you close the door, it is the quality of the ride that allows you to identify the seal of the four rings, because from the feeling of the steering wheel, the damping that the suspension gives you and the impulse of the 249 horsepower, absolutely everything is harmonious, as if a waltz was played in the background that inspires the truck to move to your beat.

As soon as we found the first curves on the road, we stepped on the accelerator to find the limits of its adjustment, it was at that moment when we manipulated the magic button of happiness that allowed us to modify the set-up of the car, through the Drive Select system : Goodbye Auto, welcome Dynamic, it was time to take advantage of the quattro all-wheel drive.

If there is something to thank for the evolution of this engine, which was coupled to an S-Tronic dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission, it is that, despite being supercharged, the brand was able to completely mitigate the delay that was you expect from any turbo engine, providing you with 272 pound-feet of torque practically at the touch of the accelerator, being able to dispose of them at will.

The suspension does a good job of keeping you safe at all times, allowing the truck to significantly reduce weight transfer when attacking corners, and while steering can be a bit misleading, it makes you feel like you’re in a very regular road to impeccably absorb the irregularities of the road, the truth is that it is good enough to help you take the truck wherever you want, quickly and predictably, aided at all times by the electronic assistance, which makes driving, a noble and safe experience, helping you at all times to control a vehicle weighing around two tons as if you were a racing driver.

The perfect complement to your driving dynamics is a friendly infotainment system, which houses new internet connectivity services, as well as Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, which are projected on a 10.1-inch screen, served by exquisite audio. signed by Bang & Olufsen.

This is how the Q5 seeks to remain Audi’s favorite truck.
