London, Jul 28 . .- One of the last self-portraits of the Dutch artist Rembrandt has been auctioned this Tuesday at Sotheby’s for £ 14.5 million (16 million euros).
An estimated 80 self-portraits of the artist exist in the world, all of them located in the world’s largest museums, with the exception of three that are in private hands.
One of them was sold by Sotheby’s in London in 2003, while another is on loan to the National Gallery of Scotland. The third has been the one that the auction house has offered this Tuesday.
The bid reached 16 million euros, which is a record figure for a self-portrait by this artist.
The painting by Joan Miró Peinture (Femme au chapeau rouge) was also sold at the same auction for 24.5 million euros.
