ATP Gstaad 2021: Vit Kopriva surprises Shapovalov

Today’s afternoon has experienced one of the biggest surprises of the tennis season. Denis Shapovalov, showing off his status within the top-10, he was surprised in his debut in the ATP Gstaad 2021 before # 249, the Czech Vit Kopriva, which comes from the previous phase (2-6, 6-3, 6-2). Since Queen’s 2017 a player in the top-10 has not lost to someone so low ranked in an ATP tournament: on that occasion, Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated Milos Raonic. A surprising result in what is the first ATP tournament of the Czech tennis player, who in fact signed his first victory on the circuit in the first round.

Other results of round of 16 matches:

Casper Ruud (3) d. Dennis Novak 6-4, 7-6 (5)

Benoit Paire (6) d. Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, Ret.

Mikaël Ymer d. Feliciano López (8) 6-7 (6), 7-6 (7), 6-4 (Ymer saved two match points in the tie-break of the second set, one on Feli’s serve)
