ROME (AP) – Milan suffered a humiliating 3-0 home loss at the hands of Atalanta, and their lead over arch-rival Inter was reduced to two points.
The only consolation for the Rossoneri is that they secured the “winter title”, which in seven out of 10 cases anticipates the championship.
Cristian Romero, Josip Iličić and Duván Zapata scored for Atalanta.
It was Milan’s second loss of the season, but also the second in four games, having lost 3-1 at home to Juventus.
Inter drew 0-0 with Udinese in heavy rain.
After two consecutive defeats, Roma got some relief by beating Spezia 4-3 in Serie A and consolidated their third place behind the Milanese teams.
Lorenzo Pellegrini scored the winning goal in the second minute of overtime after Daniele Verde tied the score for Spezia in the 90th.
Borja Mayoral scored a double and Rick Karsdop raised for the Giallorrossi, who did not have their captain Edin Džeko because he is apparently facing coach Paulo Fonseca.
Rome fell 3-0 to Lazio in the Roman Classic last week and then 4-2 to Spezia in the Italian Cup on Tuesday.
Recent results have led to speculation that Fonseca is in danger of losing the job.
Roberto Piccoli and Diego Farias also scored for Spezia, who is playing in the senior division for the first time and is four points above the relegation zone.
