Deadline reporter Justin Kroll took to Twitter to reveal where the future Marvel Studios project stands on ‘The Fantastic Four’ (Fantastic Four) directed by Jon Watts. Kroll confirmed that at the moment the film remains unscripted, although Marvel has already started conversations with different writers.

The news comes after rumors that place Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (‘Passengers’) as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, something that has not yet been confirmed. Recall that Kevin Feige announced this project during San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Already in December 2020 it was said that Jon Watts (‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’) would be its director, which could delay production even more considering tells that Watts is busy with the third installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Based on the Marvel comic series created in 1961 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, in 2015 the last installment of these superheroes arrived with ‘Fantastic Four’, a film directed by Josh Trank that barely grossed 167 million dollars at the world box office for a budget of 120 million. The film was also surrounded by controversy, with Trank himself lamenting the quality of his final cut.

For their part, the films directed by Tim Story in 2005 and 2007 were financially successful although highly criticized cinematographically. Starring Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans, the two films grossed $ 619 million worldwide.
