In this week’s WWE RAW episode, the promotion finally began the route to SummerSlam. On the show, we saw Asuka and Sasha Banks compete individually for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship. Banks walked away with the victory when Asuka headed to the backstage to help Kairi Sane, who was attacked by Bayley.

Also, on the show, we saw Randy Orton challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE title at SummerSlam. The viper also attacked the Scottish psycho with the RKO after accepting the challenge. We also saw Street Profits defend the RAW Tag Team Championship against Angel Garza and Andrade’s team at SummerSlam.

Kairi Sane’s Challenge

Prior to WWE Extreme Rules, Kairi Sane told Asuka that she would want to challenge her for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship that Asuka had retained at the event. At the PPV, due to great confusion, the fight ended in no contest.

In this week’s WWE RAW episode, Asuka lost the championship fight against Sasha Banks when she decided to fight for Kairi Sane instead of fighting Banks. Now it seems that Kairi Sane has left WWE, killing rumors about a match with Asuka at SummerSlam.

Original plans for Asuka at SummerSlam

Previously it was reported that WWE was building a fight between Kairi Sane and Asuka for SummerSlam. With Kairi Sane now out of WWE, Dave Meltzer has reported what the original plans for PPV were.

In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer reported WWE’s original plan for SummerSlam. Before Sasha Banks won the RAW Women’s Championship last night, the plan was for Asuka to defend the title against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam.

He went on to say that Sasha Banks was not Asuka’s opponent after WWE Extreme Rules.

“A lot of changes were made, including things for Asuka and Sasha Banks. All that changed. Originally Asuka was going to defend the title against whoever ATTACKED Kairi and that was, at least on Sunday night or Monday morning last week, just before the tapes [y] they broke everything. ”
