Users of the fantasy football platform Sorare will be able to access collectibles from the Argentine club River Plate. Thanks to an agreement between both parties, the collectibles of the historic Argentine team, current runner-up in the local tournament and Copa Libertadores semifinalist, arrive at Ethereum.
Through a press release, Sorare and River reported on the agreement, which will bring figures such as captain Leonardo Ponzio, Enzo Pérez, Bruno Zuculini or goalkeeper Franco Armani to the collectibles system.
Sorare’s collectibles are non-fungible tokens created under Ethereum’s ERC-721 standard. In this system, users collect soccer player cards (tokens) to participate in fantasy tournaments and compete with other people on the platform. The results of the competitions are based on the performance of the players in real life matches.
Furthermore, Sorare participants can transfer the cards on the same platform and earn money with them. The value of each depends on how rare the card is, as each season a limited number is issued and the initial value will depend on that “rarity”.
When creating a profile, each user receives 10 free random cards to start their experience on Sorare.
With the arrival of River Plate to Sorare, there are already two Argentine teams with their own collectible cards. Previously, already Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata was part of the more than 100 teams with which the collectibles system has.
Argentina has an important weight in Sorare, being the eighth country with the most active users. In addition, participants in the South American country are among those who spend the most time on the website, occupying third place.
The entry to Sorare is part of an international expansion plan for the Argentine club. Juan Cascio, River Plate’s head of international development, highlighted in this regard the “ambitious vision of building a global fantasy football game with digital cards”. Likewise, this platform will allow them “to reach new young communities, especially in Asia and America,” added Cascio.
Sorare collectibles moving nearly $ 2 million a month
Sorare was launched in beta version at the end of December 2019. In just over a year, its growth has been clear: already there is a presence of more than 20 suspenders and 110 clubs of the world, among which some of the most important in world football stand out.
The historic River Plate, Argentina’s most winning team, joins teams such as Real Madrid Spanish, the Juventus, from Italy; the french champion, PSG; or the Bayern Munich German, current European champion.
According to Sorare’s press release, the platform has surpassed 70,000 users and has moved more than 10 million dollars with the exchange of letters in more than 100 countries. Last December alone, the figure was almost $ 2 million in the Sorare market.
As reported by CriptoNoticias a few weeks ago, this project announced the arrival of the Spanish FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué. The footballer joined Sorare as a strategic advisor and investor.
