As expected, Apple today officially unveiled its sixth generation of smart watches, the Apple Watch Series 6, but in addition, it has announced a new more affordable and modest smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE. In this way, the first of them continues the line started by the original Apple Watch back in 2014, while the second follows the strategy of the iPhone SE 2020: cut in benefits and in the price to attract more public.

The arrival of these two new proposals brings with it the disappearance of the Apple Watch Series 5 from the company’s catalog, where, curiously, the model from three years ago continues: the Apple Watch Series 3. So, let’s see how are they alike and how are they different the three smart watches that Apple currently offers us.

Apple Watch Series 6: the most advanced

The sixth generation of the Apple Watch brings, as the main novelty, the incorporation of a sensor able to measure oxygen saturation in the blood, which uses four arrays of green, red, and infrared LEDs and four photodiodes on the back glass of the Apple Watch to measure reflected light from blood. It is also capable of doing an electrocardiogram (ECG).

Add to that the new dual-core processor based on the A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone 11, the S6 SiP chip, which promises to work 20% faster and extend the autonomy up to 18 hours. The Apple Watch Series 6 also incorporates the U1 chip and ultra-wideband antennas in order to use the short-range wireless connection to, for example, unlock the car with the latest generation digital keys.

Apple claims that it charges even faster (reaches 100% in 1.5 hours) and that its new always-on Retina display is up to 2.5 times brighter than the Apple Watch Series 5 outside when the user does not lift. the doll. In addition, it includes an always-on altimeter,.

Apple Watch SE: more adjusted in price and features

This model includes the essential functions of Apple Watch in a more modern design (the Watch Series 6) and with a Retina display 30% larger than the Series 3, but without Always-On function. The Apple Watch SE has the same always-on accelerometer, gyroscope and altimeter than the Apple Watch Series 6, as well as with the motion sensors, the integrated compass and the microphone.

All this, together with WatchOS 7, allows you to offer the same health and safety functions as the Watch Series 6: fall detection, SOS emergency, the Noise app, Family Settings, sleep monitoring, automatic hand washing detection and new training. You can record the keystrokes, but does not allow measurement of oxygen saturation in the blood and lose the ability to do ECG.

Incorporates the S5 SiP chip of the Apple Watch Series 5 which, according to Apple, is up to twice as fast as the S3 chip in the Apple Watch Series 3. It also features the Digital Crown with haptic feedback, an optimized speaker and microphone, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Apple Watch Series 3: the veteran

Keep in mind that we are talking about a model from three years ago, so there are differences with the new watches in almost all sections. First, its Retina display is smaller, has slightly less resolution and only lights up as soon as you lift your wrist. In addition, the case is 38 or 42 mm.

It measures your heart rate and can alert you if it detects an irregular rhythm or an unusually high or low heart rate, but it cannot monitor your oxygen saturation or take an electro. It also includes the SOS Emergency option, but lacks emergency calls, fall detection and the Noise app.

It has an altimeter (which is not always active), the S3 SiP dual core chip (which, as we said, is less fast) and the Digital Crown without haptic feedback.
