Luca de Meo has already assigned a new role to Alpine to maintain its survival in the market. Selected models of the Rombo will coin a sportier and more aggressive aesthetic, together with a specific tuning of the chassis. The new batch of sporty B-SUVs open the door to the future Alpine Captur.
The restructuring that Luca de Meo is undertaking in Renault so that the Rombo brand returns to the path of profits and the black numbers in the accounts also implies Alpine. The strategy of the sports brand, which took on the role of becoming the “French Porsche” it has ended up forcing the firm to downgrade significantly to the role of the Spanish CUPRA.
And this is what Luca de Meo, the head of Renault, has stated, who was in charge of making the new positioning very clear when he took office and presented the new business strategy, stating that “Alpine must leave its current market niche and for that we must develop the brand. It means abandoning the «RS» brand and inaugurating the new «Alpine Line» range, a more exclusive offering that opens the doors wide to the Alpine Captur.
The RS Line finish of the new Renault Captur will be the starting point of the future Alpine Captur
And it is that the most traditional sports utility vehicles have been transformed into B-SUV with this same quality, one more reason for the future Alpine Captur to come true, of which de Meo has not ruled out. The Italian pointed out in his presentation that
«As I did with CUPRA, I will find a point of contact between the Alpine brand and certain Renault models. We have to be credible on this, so I’m not going to do this with Espace or Kangoo. I’ll do it with things that correspond to the positioning of the brand.
And the Captur is one of those that can become one of these future sports models, so we present this recreation as a preview. The brand will start from the sportier “RS Line” finish adding an extra touch of aggressiveness with a new grille framework and air intakes in a black painted honeycomb design. The aesthetic part is finished off with Larger diameter alloy wheels and a multi-spoke design, plus colored brake calipers.

An image that will also have a specific chassis tuning with a more demanding level of ride. For now, the French brand neither confirms nor denies any new move for Alpine, but given the almost imminent arrival of the Hyundai Kona N, the Rombo alternative is an important novelty in 2022, taking advantage of the mid-life facelift.
Although some point to the 252 hp 1.8 TCe engine of the current Alpine A110 as a propulsion option for this Alpine Captur, hybridization is mandatory to keep emissions at bay. Thus, the Alpine team will use the new “E-TECH” technology, using the engine of 1.3 TCe, instead of the atmospheric 1.6 liter. In this way, the maximum power of the set can exceed 200 hp – reaching up to 230 hp– the ideal figure for a sports version in the Captur category.
