Fernando Alonso has taken the victory in the Indianapolis race of the virtual championship ‘Legends Trophy’ organized by The Race. The Asturian has won in a fierce fight with Jenson Button in the American oval. He still has a second race ahead with an inverted grid.
In the classification, Petter Solberg took first place. Second place went to Jenson Button followed by Oriol Servià. Fernando Alonso, with a great time, fourth position as in his debut. The race was 20 minutes long.
Departure. Solberg defended first place well at the start. Fernando Alonso climbed to second place and began to demonstrate a great rhythm. Soon after, Dario Franchitti took the lead but lost it after an accident with Adrián Fernández.
This left Fernando Alonso in the lead followed by Jenson Button. The two former teammates at McLaren in 2015 opened a two-second gap in the Indianapolis oval over third-ranked Jan Magnussen. The Danish fought in turn with Oriol Servià.
Button and Alonso further increased the margin after five career minutes. The British and the Asturian alternated leadership cleanly and piloted with great intelligence. At the equator of the test, the difference from Magnussen and Servià increased to seven seconds. Mario Andretti, doubled, followed in the wake of Alonso and Button to adapt to his first time in the simulator.
Jason Plato tried to overtake Servià and sent him to the wall. The Catalan lost enough positions. The situation benefited Alonso and Button who were leading without opposition with four minutes to go. 10 seconds compared to Tiago Monteiro, who picked up third place after the incident.
With two minutes to go, Jenson Button was the leader. Alonso overtook the Briton at Turn 3 a little later. Everything was to be decided in the last few meters while dodging doubles and the odd accident car. Button returned the overtaking to the Spanish, who reserved a last final squeeze and took advantage of a mistake by the British on the last lap.
Finally, Alonso took a masterful victory over the finish line after an impressive fight with Button. The Spaniard, in his second Simracing race, has achieved a classy win in Indianapolis. A prelude to what we can see in reality on August 23?
In development: Fernando Alonso still has a second race with an inverted grid ahead.
