Fernando Alonso anticipates that he will travel to some Formula 1 races this year with Renault to see how they work and prepare his return to the Gran Circo with the team.
The Spanish rider will return to the premier class after a two-year break. In the summer of 2018, he revealed that he was walking away from Formula 1 to take a break, but in reality the next few months were a continual bustle for him. Thus, he decided to take this year more calmly and ‘only’ placed the Dakar and the Indianapolis 500 on his agenda.
“In 2019 I had too many events, there were too many things and it was a full season from January to December, and for 2020 I took a more relaxed philosophy, and I wanted to race the Dakar and then focus only on the Indy 500”, Alonso commented in a press conference for a limited group of media among which this header has been.
Once Indianapolis passes, Fernando will work for his next challenge, to return Renault to the top, a challenge that will make him accompany the team in some of the Grand Prix of the second half of the season, as confirmed before starting the program from Indianapolis. The Asturian will combine his visits with work in the simulator to recover filming, after several months of driving very different cars.
“After this, on Monday the 24th, I will relax a little and start preparing to return to F1 with Renault, physically and mentally. I will also do some simulation with them and I will travel to some races this year to see how they work“, has added.
“This year I have been training a lot and preparing myself physically, but in March and in April I was a little sick. I recovered and then I did a lot of cycling and I have been preparing during the quarantine,” Fernando shared to finish.
