Singer Alanis Morrisette revealed that she was sexually abused at age 15 by multiple men.
The confession was made in Jagged, an episode of HBO’s Music Box documentary series that was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Having access to the documentary before anyone else The Washington Post released part of Morrisette’s statements.
The Canadian singer admitted that it was she herself who over the years revictimized herself for having been raped, a subject she had to deal with in therapy.
“I always said that I was consenting, and then they reminded me that I was only 15 years old. You can’t consent at that age, ”says Morrisette in Jagged.
The composer also stated that she told some people in the music industry what had happened to her, but that she only got “deaf ears” and therefore avoided the subject with her family.
Alanis rose to fame with the 1995 Jagged Little Pill album. Since then she has recorded seven albums and won seven Grammy Awards.
According to The Washington Post, the artist will not attend the Toronto International Film Festival, while the Music Box series is scheduled to launch this fall.
