After abandoning the Daytona 500 due to the violent mass accident, Daniel Suárez will make his second foray there today, now in the circuit configuration – instead of an oval – on the second date of the US Nascar Cup stellar series.

The Monterrey driver made his debut last Sunday in the classic Daytona 500 at the command of the newly created Trackhouse Racing car 99, although the enthusiasm faded with the tremendous massive accident on lap 14, in which 16 cars were involved. , among them that of Suárez, who had to leave, reaching the final position 36.

Suarez had started the race 15th out of 44 cars and looked like he could fight for the top-10, which he didn’t aspire to last season with the Gaunt Brothers.

Unfortunately I was caught in another driver’s error only on lap 15, and although I managed to pass the accident almost clean, my car was practically destroyed on the wet grass, Suarez said after the race at the Daytona oval, which was later interrupted by a strong storm and concluded on Monday.

Heading into race two at Daytona, he claimed to have put the incident behind him and was enthusiastic: I’m sure we’ll be fine. I love road racing. Now we can go to Austin, Road America and Indianapolis. We haven’t been to these places in the Cup Series. It’s always exciting to see new places and build more fans. This is the second time I will race the Daytona Road Course.

The Sunday challenge will take place on the 3.61 mile (5.8 kilometer) track, a very basic layout that uses three-quarters of the oval. Contrary to the Daytona 500, the format used during the pandemic will be resumed, without practice or qualifying, going directly to the race, agreed to 70 laps.
