Adjust screen brightness in Windows, manually and automatically

When we have a laptop we want to make the most of the battery. Something that can consume too much battery is precisely the screen. For that reason we are going to see how to adjust screen brightness in Windows manually and automatically quite simply.

Change screen brightness manually on a laptop

In laptops we can find in the keys that are between F1 and F2, those that correspond to increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.

For example, on my laptop they are found on the F8 and F9 keys. Because they have an icon with a “Sun” in some occasions the icon changes shape to increase and decrease, in others it simply has a date pointing up and another down.

These are function keys, which means that we must hold down the “Fn” key before pressing to change the screen brightness.

Another way to change the brightness is from the operating system itself. We are simply going to go to Settings> System> Screen and we can slide the bar to the left or right to increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.

In the case of Windows 7 we will have to enter the “Control Panel”. Then we are going to go to “Hardware and sound” and select the “Power Options”. Here we can see a screen brightness sliding control. In this way we can save battery life on a Windows laptop.

How to adjust brightness automatically in Windows

We can also adjust it automatically. For this we will have to go to “Hardware and sound” in the “Control Panel”. Then we will click on “Change plan settings” option that is next to the power plan we are using.

Here we can set different levels of brightness. One with “Battery” and another “Connected to the current”. Another thing we can do is automatically adjust the brightness of the screen according to the battery that our laptop has left.

For this we will have to go to Settings> System> Battery. We are going to mark the option “Reduce screen brightness while in battery saving mode” and then we will have to select the percentage in which we want the battery saving mode to be activated.

When it reaches that battery percentage, the saving mode will automatically be activated and in this way the brightness will decrease saving a lot of battery in the process.

Unfortunately the only way to automatically adjust the screen light is only through battery saver. However, as you can see, it is not too difficult to adjust the Windows screen brightness.
