The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday repudiated the signing of the agreements to normalize relations between Israel and two Gulf countries and warned that there will be no « peace » in the Middle East while the Israeli « occupation » of the Palestinian territories.

« There will be no peace, security or stability for anyone in the region without the end of the occupation and (without) respect for the full rights of the Palestinian people »Abbas said in a statement, reacting to the approval in Washington of the agreements to restore relations between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

In the last weeks, Palestinians accused Emirates and Bahrain of betraying the « Arab consensus », according to which there must be a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before any normalization of relations with Israel.

« Attempts to elude the Palestinian people […] will have serious consequences, for which the United States and the Israeli occupation must take responsibility ”, the Palestinian president added Tuesday, without elaborating.

On the other hand, this Tuesday at least two people were injured by the firing of two rockets from the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian enclave run by the Islamist Hamas movement, according to the Israeli army.

According to the army, one of the projectiles was intercepted by the Israeli defense system. It rang the anti-aircraft alarms in the Israeli towns of Ashkelon and Ashdod, bordering Gaza. The second fell in the city of Ashdod, located between Gaza and the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, and there were two minor injuries.

Normally, the Israeli army responds to these rocket fire with shelling of positions of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

The Islamist movement and Israel respect a fragile truce for a year and a half, it is often broken by rocket and incendiary balloon fire from the Strip and by Israeli bombardment.

Both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority of President Mahmoud Abbas, whose headquarters are in Ramallah, in the West Bank, have criticized these agreements signed between Israel and Arab countries.

« The normalization agreements between the UAE and Bahrain with the Zionist entity (Israel) are not worth the ink with which they were written, and our people » will continue to « insist on the fight until they fully win their rights, » said Hazem Qasem, spokesman for the movement. Islamist Hamas, which rules de facto in Gaza.

This Tuesday there were demonstrations in several Palestinian cities to show their rejection of this normalization of relations, but none of them brought together more than several hundred people, according to . journalists.
