AB Quintanilla is mourning the death of his best friend and groupmate, Noé ‘Gipper’ Nieto, who died on September 11 after two weeks of fighting the complications caused by covid-19.

Selena’s brother shared his sadness on Instagram with a photo where they appear together: “I never had a brother until I met ‘Gipper’ … My heart hurts,” he wrote at the beginning of the message.

I just received the news that he passed away after a two week battle with the covid. I’m in shock that it went so fast. My heart goes out to his wife and children he leaves behind. He was my best friend, an amazing musician and we will really miss him. Take care people, ”he wrote.

Despite his sadness, AB fulfilled his work commitments, so on September 12 he expressed how difficult it was to give a concert.

“Going on stage last night knowing that ‘Gipper’ passed away early yesterday was one of the hardest things I had to do. ‘Gipper James’ I will never forget you, “he wrote next to another photograph where they have fun together on an electric bike.

Singer Bobby Pulido also expressed his condolences on Instagram with a message and a couple of images where the late musician appears.

“With a broken heart I want to offer my condolences to the family and friends of a great musician and tremendous human being, Noé ‘Gipper’ Nieto, accordionist for the Kumbia Kings and Kumbia All Starz. RIP my brother. The covid sucks. “
