New York.- Five people, including a 6 year old boy they were shot in a shooting who was registered in the city of Brooklyn in New York during the J’Ouvert celebration, a street party as part of a Carnival where the peoples of the Caribbean have immigrated.

The shots began to be heard shortly before three in the morning at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Crown Street in Crown Heights, where around 300 people gathered to celebrate West Indies Day.

The scene became chaotic with people running to save themselves from the gunfire and others coming to help injured people.

The six-year-old minor and his mother were getting out of a taxi to attend the celebration when they were hit by the shots.

In a video posted on social networks you can see the dramatic images of the minor lying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood, while a woman who was allegedly the mother identified as Patricia Bratwaithe, runs to his aid.

The other three injured were shot in the feet and legs, all of the wounded were taken to the Kings County Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The little boy identified as Maxwell Cesc-Vinho was operated on this Monday.

New York Police Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison regretted what happened and said the shooting apparently it was related to gangs.

« This is a notorious area of gangs with which, you know, we have had problems in the past, « the detective explained to reporters.

So far it is unknown if any of the victims was the target of the shooting.

It should be noted that the official J’Ouvert and West Indies Day events were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, some people decided to get together to celebrate.
