2020 Bentley Flying Spur: V8 variant deliveries begin

The 2020 Bentley Flying Spur is the British automaker’s luxury saloon and the brand’s flagship after the withdrawal of the Bentley Mulsanne. Presented in May 2019, it is available with the W12 engine of its presentation or with a V8 biturbo from October 2020. The first V8 units have already reached their owners. It is available from 250,000 euros.

The 2020 Flying Spur is the third generation of the model, which originally debuted in 2005. It replaces the car that has been on the market since 2013. It is the new flagship after the withdrawal of the Bentley Mulsanne. It boasts encapsulating the spirit of a sports sedan with that of a luxury limousine. It credits a power of 635 horsepower. Its rivals are the Audi A8, the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as well as the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

The Bentley Flying Spur measures 5,316 meters in length, 2,22 meters in width and 1,484 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 3,194 meters. It weighs 2,437 kilos.

Despite the aesthetic resemblance of the Flying Spur 2020 to the model it replaces, the British luxury brand assures that this third generation has been created from scratch. It is three centimeters longer and its 3.19 meter wheelbase ensures extra space that is especially noticeable in the two rear seats.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, it recalls the 1957 S1 Continental Flying Spur with vertical slats on its grille, which shine with any of the 17 colors available for the bodywork. We also have LED matrix headlights, 21-inch wheels and a statue on the front that is retractable and lights up when welcoming.

Another highlight is its dynamic behavior, which is particularly favored by the present four-wheel steering system, an absolute novelty for the brand. This works hand in hand with other key points such as an air suspension with damping control or active stabilizer bars. In addition, the brake discs grow up to 420 millimeters, increasing the luxury car’s stopping capacity compared to its predecessor.

The 2020 Bentley Flying Spur bets once again on a combination of premium materials such as wood and leather, as well as a leather for the seats that can display up to 15 different colors.

There is also a 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard that can be hidden if the driver so wishes, while the sound system, signed by Bang & Olufsen, offers up to 1,500 watts and 19 speakers. Bentley, however, offers a second equipment from Naim with 2,200 watts.

Exterior optional equipment for the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur includes two 21-inch and a third 22-inch wheels, red brake calipers, a chrome finish for the front grille, climate control for the windshield and a retractable winged B emblem. Bentley.

Driving aids include an infrared night vision camera, traffic assistant, blind spot alarm and head-up display system.

The 2020 Bentley Flying Spur is available in two mechanical options. Before 2023, a third will be incorporated, which will be a plug-in hybrid.

The Flying Spur was featured with a 6.0-liter W12 engine and 635 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 900 Newton meters. It is associated with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

It certifies a combined consumption of 14.8 liters per 100 kilometers and emits 337 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

The traction system is all-wheel drive, although it only sends torque to the front axle in case a loss of grip is detected.

As for its performance, it accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers / hour in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 333 kilometers / hour, considerable figures for a vehicle of this size.

In October 2020, Bentley’s signature 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine debuts. It produces 550 horsepower with 770 Newton meters of torque. It reaches 318 kilometers / hour and accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.1 seconds.

With the V8 engine, it credits a combined consumption of 12.7 liters per 100 kilometers and emissions of 288 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

Beyond the numerical differences, the V8 configuration also represents a saving of 100 kilos compared to the W12 variant. Weight distribution also benefits. Cylinder cut-out, which occurs in 20 milliseconds, can affect up to four cylinders depending on driving needs.
