With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to wreak havoc in the United States of America, there seemed to be no way that WWE could host its SummerSlam 2020 event at the originally announced location of TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

The company released a statement today acknowledging that the event will no longer take place in Boston:

In coordination with our local partners, government officials and TD Garden, WWE SummerSlam and related events will no longer take place in Boston. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. We are grateful to the city of Boston for their longstanding partnership and look forward to hosting WWE events at TD Garden in the future.

SummerSlam will air live on Sunday, August 23 at 7 p.m. M. ET on the WWE Network and soon you will receive information about a new location for the event.

The last line of the statement leaves open the possibility that somewhere other than the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, may be under consideration for SummerSlam 2020. It doesn’t seem plausible that will happen, but we’ll have to wait for further clarification from WWE once all the details have been clarified.
