Mario Diaz-Balart, a member of the United States House of Representatives, assured that your country should continue to issue sanctions against the Nicolás Maduro regime after the publication of the UN report that shows serious crimes against humanity in Venezuela.

« We must continue the harsh sanctions against this dictatorship and support the opposition in their calls for democracy and respect for human rights in Venezuela, » Diaz-Balart said on Twitter.

The UN report presented by the Venezuela Fact-Finding Mission states that Maduro and the Ministers of Interior and Defense, Néstor Reverol and Vladimir Padrino López, respectively, are involved in serious crimes against humanity, including torture, committed by the country’s security forces.

The 443-page document includes the investigation of 223 cases of human rights violations; In addition, the Mission examined 2,891 other cases to corroborate the patterns of violations and crimes.

« Far from being isolated acts, these crimes were coordinated and committed in accordance with State policies, with the knowledge or direct support of the commanders and senior government officials, ”said Marta Valiñas, president of the Mission.

The Mission was unable to visit Venezuela because the regime did not respond to repeated requests. Interviews conducted by UN representatives were conducted remotely with victims, witnesses, family members, former state officials, lawyers, representatives of non-governmental organizations and international personnel.
