Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny posted a photo of himself in a hospital in Germany on Tuesday and said he was breathing alone.
He posted on Instagram Tuesday: “Hi, I’m Navalny. I’ve been missing you I still can’t do much, but yesterday I managed to breathe on my own all day.
“Just on my own, with no additional help, not even a valve in my throat. I loved it. It is a remarkable process that many underestimate. Highly recommended. »
Navalny, 44, was flown to Berlin for treatment at the Charite hospital two days after he fell ill on a domestic flight in Russia on August 20.
A German military laboratory determined that Navalny was poisoned with Novichok, the same kind of Soviet-era agent that Britain said was used against former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, England, in 2018. On Monday, the government German said laboratory tests in France and Sweden supported their findings.
The Kremlin has been angered by calls from German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other leaders to answer questions about the poisoning, denying any official involvement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the West of using the incident as a pretext to introduce new sanctions against Moscow.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s office said it had expressed « deep concern over the criminal act » with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
The Kremlin said Putin in the call « underscored the inappropriateness of the unfounded accusations against the Russian side » and emphasized Russia’s demand that Germany provide tests and samples. Putin also called for the joint work of German and Russian doctors.
Navalny spokesman Leonid Volkov declined to elaborate on Navalny’s possible plans after his recovery when contacted by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
